Are women “suppressed”?

Are women “suppressed”?

There’s a serious body of research in sociology, psychology, and history that says:

For centuries, women’s roles were narrowly defined:

  • Be agreeable
  • Be nurturing
  • Be self-sacrificing
  • Be quiet
  • Be beautiful, but not powerful
  • Be supportive, but not centered

That doesn’t disappear in one or two generations.

Cultural expectations get passed down through:

  • Family modeling
  • Media
  • Religion
  • School norms
  • Workplace dynamics
  • Beauty standards
  • Even clothing and sizing (👀 hello fashion industry)

So the “suppression” many women feel today isn’t chains and cages.

It’s conditioning.

Conditioning to put everyone else first.
Conditioning to apologize for taking up space.
Conditioning to feel guilty for investing in themselves.
Conditioning to see their body as something to fix, not celebrate.

That’s very real. And very documented.
